Are you destined to be a FAT LEADER?

fatfoodThe results of a recently released study published in a British medical journal say that half of U.S. adults will be obese by 2030 unless the government makes changing the food environment a priority. It further states that changes over the past century in the food industry have contributed to an environment in which personal willpower and efforts to maintain a healthful weight are largely impossible.

So let me get this correct. It’s the food industry that has eroded everyone’s willpower and caused people to shove copious amounts of Big Macs, Whoppers, greasy fries, biscuits and gravy, bacon, ribs, and other artery clogging food into their mouths requiring them to be weighed at a UPS freight dock?

Is our willpower now controlled by the aroma of fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts or the Cinnabon stand at the airport; apparently so according to the study. But let’s hope not if we want to be a great leader.

There are times when leaders find themselves in tough environments. When they do they must rely on personal resolve and a strong willpower to achieve. Also they need to understand some other things that will help them fight off the temptation to cave in.

Here are some things to do:

  • Establish a set of guiding principles and stick to them
  • Establish strong relationships with the influencers in the organization and seek their support
  • Create a strong team and rely on their strengths
  • Communicate continuously with your team and your followers
  • Find the obstacles and ways to remove them
  • Constantly offer hope and encouragement

A fat leader will be the one trying to lead using their title alone. They will not understand that it is their responsibility to create an environment that establishes relationships, builds an effective team and is conducive to positive organizational morale which ultimately leads to success.

A fat leader just sits back, eats the doughnuts and the cinnamon buns, and then expects someone else to do the work for them. Do this and you will be obese and it normally starts with your head.

Learn to be a better leader and positive things will happen.

Have a Great Blahless Day!
