Blah Defined – A beginning..

I’m not sure, but I will take a guess that no one has ever taken the words of Albert Einstien, Peter Drucker and Gene Roddenberry and connected them to make a point. Also, I’m not real sure I will be able to do it, but before this connection idea leaves my head I’m going to try. You need to understand what Blah is (at least what I believe it to be), before you can avoid it, teach others to avoid it, and finally get rid of it.

First you need to understand that the Blah in organizations wouldn’t be there, wouldn’t even gain a foothold without Blah people. Blah people (Blahbots) create Blah processes which leads to Blah thinking and this Blah thinking creates this sloth of an organization whose employees, or members in a volunteer organization, march along droning a chant of BS (Blah Stuff).

So if people create processes, and processes are designed to make us do things in a repetitive way, and we follow processes hoping they will improve our organizations but find they don’t but we follow them anyway, and Einstien said this was insanity, then wouldn’t it lead us to the conclusion that some people in our organizations are insane?

So now we have an organization of insane Blahbots continually marching along doing things that may not work just because established norms are not to be questioned. They continue because no one has even considered that they may be irrelevant, outdated, counter-productive or obsolete as Peter Drucker put it.

However, we should be following the lead of Captain Kirk and Dr. Spock by exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and boldly going where no man has gone before. We really should be doing this but the Blah sometimes has been around so long, and has become so strong, that those who are Trekkie visionaries sometimes feel helpless to do anything.

Now that you know Einstein and Drucker didn’t like Blah either and Gene Roddenberry has given us inspiration to become visionaries, we can begin to dive into the guts of this whole matter.
