It is refreshing to see during this time of crisis lodges using whatever means to connect with their Brethren. They are not only using conventional means such as phone calls and letters but also holding meet-ups and meaningful lodge education using the various online tools that are readily available and affordable.
A couple of thoughts crossed my mind; first, isn’t this what we are supposed to be doing anyway, and secondly, once the crisis is over, will we go back to what we did before?
That is, not regularly checking in with our Brothers, asking how they are doing and if they might need some help, and meeting again with the same old, tired agenda of minutes and bills while ignoring our primary purpose of education and improvement.
All I can say is, I hope not. I hope that those brotherly calls and conversations continue and that individual improvement and Masonic education becomes the primary focus of Masonic lodges.
I hope the Brethren who can’t come to lodge feel wanted and know that their lodge brothers care. Instead of an email or letter, they get a phone call or a personal visit from a Brother.
I hope lodges reset to a new normal.
