One of my purposes for continuing to write 365aMason is to make all Masons aware that unless we display, by our actions, our values to others, then we have failed to promote the fraternity in a way that preserves its reputation, honor, and welfare.

This Thursday, October 17^th, provides an opportunity to show our pride in the fraternity and the values it teaches. Thursday is World Values Day.

World Values Day is an annual global campaign dedicated to increasing awareness and practice of values worldwide. Founded 2016 in the United Kingdom, the event is coordinated by a team led by Charles Fowler, who serves as the Global Coordinator.

The primary objectives of World Values Day are:

• To promote awareness about the importance of values in our personal and professional lives.
• To encourage individuals, organizations, and communities to reflect on and implement their values.
• To foster a more compassionate, just, and sustainable world through the practice of positive values.

The organizers provide a theme to guide the conversation and activities each year. This year’s theme is “Bringing Values To Life”.

I discovered this event several years ago and immediately thought what a perfect way for the Masonic Fraternity to display and promote the positive values we live by. Since then, I have often envisioned every Mason and their lodges participating. The World Values website has complete participation guides for individuals, groups, schools, and communities to help join in this effort.

How to Participate

• Choose a Value: Identify a value from the Masonic ritual that resonates with you. Reflect on how you can embody this value more fully in your life.

• Act on That Value: Take concrete actions to integrate this value into your daily life. These actions could involve volunteering, community service, or simply committing to practice kindness or empathy to others.

• Share Your Story: Use social media to share your experiences and actions related to your chosen value. Tag your posts with #WorldValuesDay on October 17th, and consider including a selfie or creative content.

How Masons Should Participate

I have modified the organization’s display templates and added a square and compasses for Masons and their lodges. Just download the template, print it, complete your value statements, and then take a selfie and upload to your social media accounts. Be sure to add the tags #WorldValuesDay and #MasonicValuesChallenge.
