Alexander P Herbert

Alex was raised in 2008 and currently works as a safety engineer in the aerospace industry.

Within the Fraternity, Alex is a Past District Deputy Grand Master for the 21st Masonic District. He also serves as the Senior Warden of the Ohio Lodge of Research, the Senior Warden of Castle Island Virtual Lodge № 190 (Grand Lodge of Manitoba), and a Regent of the Royal Scofield Society.

Alex says this about the value of Masonry:

“I view Freemasonry as the world’s oldest surviving quality system, first for civil engineering and now for our own improvement. My interest in our philosophy and history has driven me along my Masonic journey, and I’ve found that a large part of that is sharing what I’ve learned along the way.”

Presentations

  • Loge Liberté chérie: A Light in the Darkness – At its height in 1944, the Esterwegen concentration camp housed over two thousand political prisoners from occupied Europe. Among them was a small band of Belgian Freemasons who, by chance or providence, found themselves assigned to the same barrack. In the midst of these terrible conditions, they came together to form the secret Masonic Lodge Liberté chérie. Years of painstaking research and translation have yielded, for the first time, a comprehensive telling of these events for English readers. It is a story that transcends personal differences and the borders of Masonic jurisdiction. This camaraderie and compassion laid the foundation for the most important work in the history of the world’s oldest Fraternity. 45-60 minutes.
  • Ohio Ritual and World Religions – “Freemasonry unites men of every country, sect, and opinion.” This interactive program will explore both the letter and spirit of our Ritual, drawing on the Ancient Charges, the Ohio Masonic Code, and our current Officers Manual. We also examine the underlying mechanics of the Degree experience and their potential interactions with many diverse cultural traditions. 45-60 minutes.
  • The Starry-Decked Heaven: Freemasonry and Spaceflight – This presentation provides an overview of the highlights and hijinks of Freemason astronauts. 30-45 minutes.
  • That Religion In Which All Men Agree – This presentation explores universal philosophical concepts within Freemasonry and across human civilization. 30-45 minutes.
  • The Legend of the Forget-Me-Not – Another look at Freemasonry before and after the Second World War – this time, to deconstruct a popular Masonic myth. 30-45 minutes.

  • An Introduction to Virtual Masonry – Freemasonry has grown and adapted over the centuries – wherever our Fraternity has expanded into, it has both thrived and also took on a unique local character. This case study explores the digital world as the next great frontier, and causes us to reexamine one of our most basic definitions: What, exactly, is a Lodge? 25-35 minutes.
